Bushtit

bushtit, watercolor and colored pencil We went out this morning and I saw a bushtit gathering spiderwebs for its nest. There was another one this afternoon doing the same thing, but this time I had my paints.

They are restless, tiny creatures that are tricky to see well. I never got a good look at the head. Realized it needed to be grayer so I added some gray in colored pencil afterwards…

  2. “Gathering spiderwebs for its nest”...that just sounds so magical and adorable! (well, maybe not for the poor spiders who might have their webs vandalized)

  3. Teresa: I have a bushtit nest; it’s a long hanging pendulous thing like an orioles, woven from spiderwebs adorned with lichen. I’ll see if I can sketch it.

The spiders make new webs every day!

  4. That’d be wonderful! I’d love to see it. Thanks!
