Peregrine Falcon, Still There

Peregrine falcon, pen and ink The female peregrine was still sitting in her spot on the UC Davis water tower when we went to pick up the paper yesterday — sketched her from the other side this time. It was overcast which made it a lot easier to pick out feather details.

  1. lovely! You should check out the North Davis Merlins one evening (Pete Armstrong knows where to find them) – would make a great comparative study with this bird. In case I hadn’t said it before, great going with the oil spill work!

  2. There seem to be merlins all over this winter. We were rewarded for one of our first trips to IBRRC by spotting a merlin by the road — and for another, a ferruginous hawk sitting on a fencepost.

Saw merlins on Point Pinole on Oct. 20, and at the Cosumnes River preserve late last month. Probables flying over several roads we’ve been on lately, too. Wheeeeee!
