Illustrated Letters

Danny Gregory of Everyday Matters announced a contest late last year: people were to send him an illustrated letter and the winner would be sent a copy of his new book. I do covet the book but mostly I love the idea of illustrated letters so I sent him one; it appears in the gallery.

Taking time not only to write to a friend but to include sketches, drawings, paintings: what a luxury. If any of you out there think this might be fun, let me know…

  1. Danny Gregory really is an inspiration… reading his blog recently has gotten me carrying my sketchbook around everywhere. I’m eager for the next international sketch crawl to arrive.

Just curious… no biggie… but I sent an e-mail to you and Numenius the other day. Since there hasn’t been any reply I’m wondering if it ever made it…

If the e-mail didn’t make it, just wanted to say, “Happy New Year!”

I’ve got another small package ready for you both, with a hand-drawn card, a slide show with special effects of some of my best photos that I put together recently for a gallery showing in Boston, plus a few more art goodies. Will try to get it off some time next week.

For now it’s off to the mountains for the weekend… the heaviest snowfall in 25 years! Snowcave time!

  2. I thought of you during my latest bookshop browse in Sydney….and Pica, I discovered a fantastic calligraphy section in one of them. I was very close to buying some of the pens and paper and re-exploring calligraphy but reality struck – when would I find the time to indulge in this sort of thing? I would like to have a go at an illustrated letter however – you have sparked my interest.
