Not For Guys

My mother arrived at lunchtime today. We went to the local Nepalese restaurant for a very good thanksgiving lunch and then dropped Numenius back at home before returning to see Pride and Prejudice.

There were three men in the audience, one of whom walked out.

  1. I have a few males who have offered to see it with me:

one husband (who has been inflicted with the the 1995 version so much he can actually do a Mrs. Bennett imitation)....

....to a few male friends who want to see it. Ren Faire and Dickens Faire, and other historical period costume geeks.

Costume geeks. Their words, not mine.

Bless their hearts, I think perhaps one of them has actually read the book.

  2. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man unwilling to watch a movie which doesn’t revolve around big guns, fast cars and sex kittens, must be in want of good taste…

I trust that you found the movie agreeable, and look forward to watching it myself so that we might enjoy some discourse on the subject.

  3. I went with a friend of mine, who periodically would whisper to me, “Thank God I didn’t talk my husband into coming with us!” I may have been in an anti-romantic mood (personal relationship issues) or maybe it was just that I loved the BBC mini-series version with Colin Firth, but I found myself rolling my eyes quite a few times at the production. But the acting was fine.
