Numenius is a geographer by training and temperament. He is a Bay Area native, and grew up roaming the East Bay hills. Pica takes her cue from Pica nuttalli, the endemic magpie of central California, chatty and alighting on gleaming things. Pica has another blog, Bird by Bird, in which she records her sketches of birds.

Oh, fabulous! I can’t wait to hear the podcast. And the self-portrait is lovely. I long to see more of your drawing and painting as well as the birds – I thought that when your did the wonderful Apocalypse work was on Qarrtsiluni.

I know how full your life is, though, with so much creativity already, and that you can’t do everything all at once.
Thanks, Jean. I do end up drawing more than birds but don’t post much of it, because I figure enough’s enough, but some of my jackrabbits do end up on Facebook…
It was great hearing the podcast, the lively conversation between you and Dave.
Yes, it was fantastic to hear your voice and learn so much more about you! I enjoy your drawings, and this self-portrait, and would love to see more of your other work sometime…busy though you are!
Maria — thank you! It was great chatting with Dave. Marja-Leena, some day we will make it up to Vancouver. I’m interested that you thought my accent was sort of “Spanish” on Dave’s site — I don’t think it should be, but it’s definitely a hybrid.
It was wonderful hearing the podcast! AS always, I am impressed with how smart you are, Pica! Great observations on the oil spill which I can barely deal with emotionally. Your Great Aunt Frances would be so proud of you! You and she are birds of a feather, you know.
Love to you…G
