Sketchcrawl XVI: Sacramento Zoo

giraffe: pen and ink There were about eleven of us at the Sketchcrawl though I think we added some numbers along the way (it goes like this: What, are you guys in a class? No, this is worldwide sketching day. Oh. That’s really cool. Turning to partner: I think we should go and get some paper and a pencil and start drawing. Haha, the cult’s expanding…)

Bateleur eagle: pen and watercolor wash Some really fine artists were among the bunch, and a good time was had by all, especially by young George who’s in line to be the next zoo docent: “That’s a giant anteater. It’s bigger than you are. Daddy, can we go on the train?”

  1. Great to hear that Sacramento had a good sketchcrawl – sorry for leaving them out of my listing by mistake.

  2. A giant anteater can kill a jaguar, despite having no teeth.

  3. Skritching a giant anteater’s forehead is one of those unexpectedly ecstatic experiences. If you ever get the chance, do so. The anteaters seem to like, even solicit it. I’m speaking from a limited sample — two? three? — but I’ll do it again ASAP.

  4. Pica:
Really enjoyed your sketches from the zoo Crawl – you are so good at capturing the specific stance of each creature!
