  1. Have to get one – guess I am not certain whether I really mean the solar cooker or the cats :)

  2. So why am I thinking of the witch in Hansel and Gretel? Maybe it’s because we met friends for dinner last night and they’d just returned from a trip to Peru, where thay had a lovely dinner of herb-stuffed roasted guinea pig. (Also alpaca steaks on another occasion.)

I like what I can see of that apparent quilt.

  3. How long did it take for the beans to cook? Did you use a black pot inside a plastic bag? And did you have to keep reorienting the stove towards the sun?

  4. Butuki, We left that pot out all day, the entire work day, but it doesn’t take that long, necessarily. In midsummer like this there’s a lot of overhead sun and the pot gets very hot. We soaked the beans overnight then threw in a couple of handfuls of barley, some celery, some herbs, and water to cover, and off it went.

It’s much more of a tricky thing in winter.

Yes, we used a black pot insite a roasting back, propped on three sticks.

  5. PS: I had it oriented to the east from 8 am to noon, then came home at lunch and oriented it due south. Since I work five minutes away from my house, this is a totally feasible option.

I’d love to set something up outside my office at work though…
