Squids and Oysters

Self-portrait, pen and ink, dazed by football Nevada Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori has just been elected primate of the Episcopal Church. She was raised a Roman Catholic and graduated in marine biology with a doctorate specialization in squids and oysters.

Now THIS is someone I’d enjoy chatting with at dinner. While eating calamares, perhaps?

Here’s another self-portrait, in honor of the self portrait marathon. If I look football fatigued, it’s because I am…

  2. She would be a very interesting dinner guest – I find most women priests make fascinating conversation as they usually have had a real fight to get to where they are….. I’m not sure that I would have persevered against the opposition from the arch conservatives – all the women priests I know have had to hold their heads up high and fought for their right to priesthood outside of the Sydney diocese. Women bishops are a long way off for our country I fear. Take this comment from ROBERT FORSYTHE, Bishop of South Sydney “It’s America. This is Australia….. though there are very many fine women in ministry, the kind of oversight and leadership role which is appropriate for a bishop is not appropriate for a woman.”. Women not capable of leadership???? That’s the infamous Sydney diocese for you and the reason I won’t set foot in an Anglican Church in Sydney.
